Sage men's soccer team earns top seed in ECAC Upstate Tournament
Centerville, MA---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team was awarded a bid to the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate Men's Soccer Division III Tournament. The Gators were named the top seed in the four-team tournament, which will be held at Elmira College (Elmira, NY). Sage brings a record of 12-5-1 into the tournament and is making the program's second straight ECAC tournament appearance in as many years.

For head coach Kyle Clancy, the 2012 tournament appearance is the squad's third straight for the young program that is in its third season as a varsity team. The Gators, which appeared in the Skyline Conference Semifinals in both 2011 and 2012, are ranked nationally in many statistical categories. The 12 wins for the 2012 team is also a program high-water mark for the team.
The team is ranked No. 36 in scoring offense with a 2.59 goals per game average, while ranking 45th with their 44 goals this fall. In addition, the team is 51st in total points with 118, while ranking 56th in win percentage (.735).
Junior forward Scott Jarosz (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) has become a national statistical leader with his high-scoring talents this season. Jarosz has dropped to second in the league in scoring with his 38, points, while his 19 goals is best in the Skyline Conference. Through last week, Jarosz was ranked nationally in scoring and a new release is slated for October 28. He was No. 5 in goals (19), No. 6 in goals per game (1.12), No. 18 in total points (38), and No. 15 in points per game (2.24). He has 3 game-winning goals this fall and now has 4 game-winners on his career. Just last week, he was named to the 2012 Capital One CoSIDA Men's Soccer Academic All-District Team for his accomplishments on the playing field and in the classroom. He continues to add to his active hold on the career scoring records at Sage as he has 28 goals and 57 points.
Sophomore Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) now has 12 points this season and is second in the scoring race with his 3 goals and 6 assists. He too has a pair of game-winners for the Gators this fall.
Junior forward Michael Sparrin (Ilion, NY/Ilion) is third in the scoring race with 10 points on 5 goals.
The trio of sophomores Jose Miranda (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore), Kenny Barnes (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore), and Tyler Denton (Saquoit, NY/Saquoit Valley) have contributed to the team's success. Miranda is next with 10 points as well on his 4 goals and 2 assists, while Barnes has chipped in with 9 points on 3 goals and 3 assists. Denton has 2 goals with 4 assists for 8 points.
Junior David Gould (Frankfort, NY/Frankfort Schulyer Central) has 2 goals with 3 assists for 7 points.
Junior midfielder Kris Kallenbach (Bristol, CT/Bristol Central) also has 6 assists this fall and ranks 58th in Div. 3 in total assists.
In goal for the Gators, freshman TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) now owns a 10-4-1 record with five shutouts. He has a .088 GAA and a .829 saves percentage in 16 games played. He has shared time in goal with junior Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown). Zehner ranks nationally in saves percentage (No. 53) and goals against average (No. 59). Madden has played in six contests and is 2-1 in goal with a .765 saves percentage and a 1.13 GAA.
