Six Gators Named to 2024 Academic All-District® Lacrosse Teams, Selected by College Sports Communicators
ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College had six of its student-athletes selected for the 2024 Academic All-District® Men's Lacrosse and Women's Lacrosse Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators.

Senior midfielder Alexandra Queeney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown), senior midfielder Ashley Hearn (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo), senior midfielder Grace Hines (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland), junior attacker Maddison Walter (Moreau, NY/South Glens Falls), and junior defender Angelina Schaefer (Latham, NY/Shaker) represented the RSC Women's Lacrosse program, while junior long-stick midfielder/defender Joe Johnson (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) was chosen from the RSC Men's Lacrosse team.
Johnson became the first Gator to garner All-American men's lacrosse honors when he received an honorable mention for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American Team.
He excelled in the RSC defensive and face-off midfield units, while totaling eight points on six goals and two assists. The first-team All-Empire 8 Conference selection closed ranked second on the circuit with 33 caused turnovers. His averages of 2.06 caused turnovers and 4.25 groundballs were good for fourth and fifth respectively in the Conference.
Johnson, now a three-time All-E8 pick, made the April 16th USILA D3 Team of the Week for his performance in helping the Gators defeat Utica for the first time on April 13. Johnson, who finished the season as the program's career leader with 80 caused turnovers and ranks second among Gators with 168 career groundballs, registered six caused turnovers and five groundballs as RSC held the visiting Pioneers scoreless for 25:35 spanning the second, third, and fourth quarters in the 16-7 home win.
Hines, Schaefer, Queeney, were voted third-team All-E8, while Hearn repeated as the RSC representative on the E8 Sportswomen of the Year Team.
Hines closed her season leading the Conference in points (64), points per-game (4.57), goals (60) and goals per-game (4.29). The totals ranked third in RSC single-season records. She is second all-time among Gators with 179 points and 157 goals and sits third in program records with 108 career groundballs. Hines, who also made third-team All-Conference last season, registered six or more points in six contests, six or more goals in six games, and eight points on seven goals and an assist twice this season.
Queeney, the program record holder with 230 career draw controls, ranks second among Gators with 42 career assists, third with 129 career points, and fourth with 87 career goals. The midfielder, who contributed 36 points on 20 goals and 16 assists, 20 groundballs and 12 caused turnovers, finished her season ranking fifth in the E8 with 68 draw controls, 4.53 per-game. She occupies the top three spots in the program's single-season record book for draw controls, including an RSC-best 70 in 2023.
Schaefer, a third-team All-E8 Conference selection for the second-straight spring, also made the 2023-2024 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team. The defender, who totaled 28 caused turnovers and 28 groundballs, led the country with a 1.000 shooting percentage (1-of-1). She caused multiple turnovers in eight games, while securing four groundballs in three contests.
Hearn, a co-captain, headed into the playoffs leading the E8 with 33 caused turnovers, while Walter, who registered 35 points on 27 goals and eight assists, closed her spring tied for fifth in the E8 with 42 groundballs.
The 2024 Academic All-District® Lacrosse Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced July 16-17.
