RSC Receives 2025 Seal of Prevention
ALBANY - Russell Sage College has received the Campus Prevention Network Seal of Prevention for the sixth-consecutive year.
Presented by Vector Solutions, the seal recognizes institutions of higher education that demonstrate leadership in student safety and well-being.
Each recipient of the CPN Seal of Prevention has taken action to create a safer campus through comprehensive, evidence-based digital prevention education on issues such as sexual assault, alcohol and drug misuse, and mental health.
"Earning the Seal of Prevention every year since 2020 demonstrates Sage's long-term commitment to creating a safe campus where every student can thrive," said Title IX Coordinator and EEO Specialist Amanda Bastiani. Because of Sage's success earning the seal multiple years in a row, Bastiani was asked to share best practices on using digital programming for safety education for a guide that Vector Solutions will make available to other colleges.
"I'm so proud that Russell Sage continues to be recognized for its prevention education programs and can serve as a model for other schools," she said.
Bastiani said the recognition highlights the strong collaboration among departments at Russell Sage and with community partners to foster a culture of safety and respect.
"Together, we ensure our digital prevention education meets NCAA standards while also offering programming to address the topics student-athletes have identified as most important," said Associate Director of Athletics Erica Faas-Li, describing how the college is adding optional mental health education for student-athletes in response to athlete feedback this academic year.
The Title IX office is also working with Human Resources to offer harassment and discrimination prevention education as well as other training topics for employees. "We're proud to partner with Title IX on its award-winning work as we roll out digital training that builds a culture of safety, trust, and collaboration across Russell Sage," said HR Director Brian Evers.
"The CPN Seal of Prevention recipients represent the top institutions nationwide, underscoring their commitment to academic excellence and the well-being of their students," said Jonathan Cherins, CEO at Vector Solutions. "Our team at Vector Solutions is proud to recognize the great value these leading institutions and organizations are providing students and the commitment we share to making higher education communities safer and stronger."
The CPN Seal of Prevention criteria are based on the Principles of Effective Prevention Programs (Nation, et al., 2003). Over 1,400 campuses and organizations were evaluated, and 452 institutions received seals. Russell Sage is among just 151 institutions that have earned the seal every year since 2020.
Seal of Prevention recipients have, on average, an 8.3% higher first-year retention rate and a 9.6% higher on-time graduation rate compared to non-seal institutions, according to Vector Solutions.
