Jefferson explodes for career night as Gators best Cazenovia, 76-53

Albany, NY –The Sage College's women's basketball team hosted the Wildcats of Cazenovia College on Tuesday night in Kahl Gym in a non-conference contest. Sage collected the 76-53 win to improve to 4-3, while the loss puts Cazenovia at 1-4.

Senior forward Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) led the Gators with her double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. She hit 12 of 14 from the line and added three steals to lead Sage after they held a 43-27 margin at the break.  The 20-point performance was a career high for the Gator tri-captain, bettering her previous high of 18 points from last February against Farmingdale State.

Sophomore Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) connected for 14 points in her second straight contest, while senior guard Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) added 10 points with eight assists and four steals. Senior guard Krysta Vanacore (Poughquag, NY/Our Lady of the Lourdes) added 12 points after she connected for three baskets from downtown.

Cazenovia's rookie guard Skylar Girard (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) paced the Wildcats with her 17 points and shot 4-6 from three-point range and 5-of-10 from the floor on the night. Junior forward Rachel McDonough (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) hauled in 11 rebounds including nine defensive boards for Cazenovia.

Bowman is making her steady climb in the Gator record book and now has 790 career points and is currently No. 8 on the all-time career scoring list. She also has 358 assists and 203 steals. She is sole possession of the No. 4 spot in career steals, while ranking No. 2 all-time in career assists.

Jefferson moved into the No. 3 position in career rebounds as she now 621 boards and is closing in on the No. 2 spot (633, Susanne Booth, 1994-1998) in rebounding.  

The Gators return to action on December 4 hosting Hartwick College at 7 p.m. in Kahl Gym, while Cazenovia is back in action on December 6 at Morrisville State.
