CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Russell Sage College faced a pair of nationally-ranked opponents in Saturday's tri-match at MIT, #13 Saint John Fisher and the host Engineers, coming in at #20.
The Gators, which fell by scores of 3-0 in both matches, received 21 kills on .222 hitting and 11 digs from freshman outside hitter John Lindheimer (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), across the six sets. The rookie registered 31 kills, 2.82 per-set, on .200 hitting and 14 digs across four matches this week.
Freshman middle blocker Evan Devine (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) added 10 total kills on .400 hitting, while freshman setter Anthony Guetti (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) totaled 41 assists, eight digs, and four aces.
SJFU (12-1), victorious by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-22, hit .354 as a team and had five different players tally at least five kills in RSC's Saturday opener. The afternoon concluded with MIT (9-5) picking up the home sweep 25-18, 25-21, 25-15, and getting a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs from senior outside hittter Grant Oh.
RSC (3-14), which has played five top-20 teams thus far, has another nationally-ranked opponent next up on its schedule. The Gators host #6 Springfield on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: The spring marks the fourth with Reid Hartl at the helm of the Gators…RSC returns six players from last season's team, highlighted by sophomore opposite Dylan Fox (Albany, NY/Colonie), the 2024 New England Volleyball Conference Rookie of the Year…Hartl added nine newcomers to the roster, including senior middle blocker Confidence Burrowes (East Orange, NJ/Donald M. Payne/Wells)…Fox, Burrows, and senior opposite Wylkins Occelin (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey) were voted co-captains.
