Gators down Utica in three sets


 

Utica, NY----The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team collected a road win over Utica College on Wednesday night as they won, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-23). The victory puts Sage at 11-18 overall and Utica drops to 12-20 on the fall.

For the Gators, senior Kellie Jones (Troy, NY/Troy) had a double-double as she racked up 11 kills with 11 digs. She added four aces as well and moved into No. 5 all-time on Sages' career ace list with 178. Jones has 206 kills and 293 digs this fall. Junior Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) also had a big night as she had 10 kills with eight blocks, elevating her career total to 350 blocks, moving her to within 14 of standing in second place on the all-time career block list. On the 2009 season, she has 202 kills with 90 blocks, which leads the team.

Sophomore setter Kristyn Buonincontra (Shelton, CT/Shelton) racked up 28 assists with seven digs. On the season, she now has 643 assists to lead the team.

The Gators will return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Vassar College Invitational. Sage will face three regionally ranked opponents over the course of the tournament, taking on the host Vassar and Fredonia State on Friday and Stevens as well as the University of Rochester on Saturday.
