Sage triumphs over MSVC, 3-1 on Senior Day

 

Troy, NY----The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team hosted Skyline Conference opponent, the College of Mt. St. Vincent. Sage would triumph 3-1 on Sunday in the Neff Athletic Center. (25-22, 16-25, 25-15, 28-26). Sage now stands at 10-18 overall and 7-2 in the Skyline Conference, while the Dolphins are now 12-12 overall and 4-5 in the league.

For the Gators, sophomore Kristyn Buonincontra (Shelton, CT/Shelton) handed out 39 assists with eight digs, while junior middle hitter Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) added 12 kills with five blocks.

Sage's sophomore Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Gibbins) connected for a team co-high 17 digs, while junior Sarah Peacock (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) also had 17 kills, but racked up nine digs.

Prior to the match, Sage recognized the team's lone senior, tri-captain and middle hitter Kelli Jones (Troy, NY/Troy).  Jones would add eight kills with nine digs.  Overall on her career, she continues to move up on Sage's career record lists. She stands in sixth all-time with her 174 career serving aces, just one shy of fifth place, and is both eighth in kills (613) and digs (1,125).

For the Dolphins, sophomore libero Renee Reynes (Bronx, NY/Aquinas) had 32 digs with three kills, while sophomore Maureen Metzner (Mineola, NY/Mineola) added 21 digs with five kills. Senior Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY/Our Lady of Victory) had 14 kills with seven digs, while senior Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Lourdes) had 33 assists with 15 digs and five kills.

The Gators will return to action travelling to Utica College for a non-conference match on October 28 commencing at 7 p.m., while Mt. St. Vincent will travel to Baruch College for a tri-match with Centenary College at Baruch on October 30.
