Volleyball team posts spilt on the day at Union Tourney
Schenectady, NY----The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team wrapped competition on Saturday at the two-day Union College Invitational. Sage tally a win over Hartwick in the first match of the day (3-0, 25-15, 25-15, 25-13), but fell in four games to Hunter College (3-1, 11-25, 25-19, 25-22, 26-25). The Gators went 2-2 for the tournament and are now 3-11 on the year.
In the win over Hartwick, Sage's senior middle hitter Kellie Jones (Troy, NY/Troy) recorded eight kills with 12 digs, while sophomore Kristyn Buonincontra (Shelton, CT/Shelton) added 24 assists with seven digs. Junior
Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) racked up 10 kills with three blocks to add to the win.
In the final match of the tournament against Hunter, Jones added 13 kills and 18 digs, while sophomore Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Gibbons) added 16 digs. Corbett racked up another eight kills on the day, while junior outside hitter Sarah Peacock (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) posted six kills with a team-high 23 digs.
Sage takes to the court again on Tuesday, September 22 hosting the Bard College Raptors in the team's first Skyline Conference match of the year. Sage is the league's reigning champions and have never lost a conference match in two years of play (18-0) since joining the conference in 2007.
