Sage falls twice at Vassar Invitational

Poughkeepsie, NY----The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team traveled to Vassar College on Friday to compete in the two-day Vassar College Invitational.

Sage opened the action facing regionally ranked Vassar College in the first match, but fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) to the Brewers. Vassar improves to 18-7 on the fall. The Gators would then face regionally ranked Fredonia, but fell in four sets, 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 25-27, 25-14). Sage is now 11-20 on the year, while Fredonia improves to 23-10.nia def. For the Gators, in the first match, junior Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) added eight kills with three blocks. Sophomore setter Kristyn Buonincontra (Shelton, CT/Shelton) racked up setting 26 assists with 11 digs. On the season, she now has 669 assists to lead the team.

Sophomore libero Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Gibbins) added 14 digs for the Gators in the first match.

Against Fredonia, Sage was led by Corbett with her nine kills and four blocks.  Junior Sarah Peacock (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) added 10 kills and 15 digs. Wilson added 16 digs for Sage in the match as well.

Corbett continues her climb on Sage's career block list as she now has 357 blocks and is just seven shy of moving her into second place on the all-time career block list. On the 2009 season, she has 219 kills with 97 blocks, which leads the team.

The Gators will return to action on Saturday at the Vassar College Invitational. Sage will take on another regionally ranked opponent as they will meet Stevens as well as the University of Rochester on Saturday.
