Sage falls to Oneonta in volleyball action
Oneonta, NY----The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team travelled to Oneonta State for a non-conference match on Thursday night. The SUNY Oneonta's Red Dragons swept through visiting Sage College, 3-0 as they won 25-16, 25-13, 25-8 to move to one game above the .500 mark at 14-13 overall while the Gators fall to 8-14.
Oneonta's freshman Kacy Boburka (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) continued her strong rookie season leading Oneonta with 10 kills to go with two blocks. Classmate Brittany Calvello (Gloversville, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) fueled the attack with 32 assists.
Sophomore Jessica Zerega (New City, NY/Clarkstown) led the defense with 17 digs to go with her four aces. Classmate Christina Fabiochi (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor) led the Red Dragons with five aces.
Junior Megan Boeltz (Greene, NY/Greene) led Oneonta with five blocks.
Sage College was led by junior Sarah Peacock (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg), who had six kills and four digs. Junior Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/Goshen) added four kills and a block for the Gators.
Thursday's match was also Oneonta's second annual "Dig Pink" event, which is part of a nationwide breast cancer awareness rally. Hundreds of Colleges and high school teams across the country will participate this year to help raise awareness about breast health education as well as raise funds in the fight to eradicate the disease that afflicts some many women in the U.S. and around the world. Last year Oneonta raised over $1,000 and this year's goal is to raise $1,500.
The Gators will return to action on Saturday, October 17 hosting a quad match featuring Ramapo College, Skidmore College, Brockport State. Action gets underway Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Kahl Campus Center.
