Gators Pick Up First Two Wins of 2008 Season

NY, NY - The Sage Colleges Volleyball Team (2-2) picked up their first two wins of the 2008 season on the second day of the New York University Labor Day Invitational. The Gators defeated both Rutgers-Newark and Polytechnic three games to zero.

In the first match of the day Sage defeated Rutgers-Newark 25-15, 25-16, 25-9. Krista Provost (Delanson, NY) managed a double double for hte Gators with ten kills and ten digs. Senior standout Kaitlin Olmstead (Horseheads, NY) dished out 23 assists, three aces and seven digs; while Sophomore Nicole Corbett (Castleton, NY) added six kills and four blocks. 

Sage faced conference foe Polytechnic in the second match of the day. The Gators cruised to an easy three game victory 25-14, 25-23, 25-20. Kellie Jones (Troy, NY) paced Sage with nine kills and eight digs. Provost picked up right where she had left off with seven kills and 16 digs, and Corbett contributed eight kills and three blocks.

Sage finished third in the tournament and Provost earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team thanks to her 36 kills and 61 digs on the weekend. The Gators return to the court September 5th as they travel to the Elmira College Tournament.
