Sage Opens Season at NYU Invitational

NY, NY - The Sage Volleyball Team opened up their 2008 season with a pair of losses at the New York Univeristy Labor Day Invitational.

In their first match of the day the Gators fell to Pirates of Whitworth University one game to three. Junior Krista Provost (Delanson, NY) led the Sage with nine kills and 17 digs, while Kaitlin Olmstead (Horseheads, NY) opened her senior season with 31 assists and nine digs.

Sage fell to the host team NYU one game to three in their final match of the day. The one game the Gators defeated the Violets marks the first time Sage has stolen a game from NYU in their history of facing each other. Provost continued to put away the ball with ten kills and 18 digs. Newcomer Sarah Peacock (Duanesburg, NY) gathered 14 digs and three kills.

After the matches Head Coach Lisa Gallagher added, "It's a great showing for us for our opening tournament, we have a young squad and the captains did a good job of playing leadership roles. The key is going to be getting some of the newcomers involved as we move forward".

Sage will face Rutgers-Newark and conference foe Polytechnic in the final day of the Labor Day Invitational.
