Sage Volleyball Takes Both Matches In First Day of Elmira Tournament

Elmira, NY - The Sage Colleges volleyball team defeated both Hartwick College and Pitt-Bradford University in the first day of the Elmira Tournament to finish the day 2-0 and improve to 4-2 on the season.

In the first match of the day the Gators defeated Hartwick three games to zero, 25-23, 25-10, 25-21.  Nicole Corbett (Castleton, NY) led Sage with nine kills and three blocks, while Junior Krista Provost (Delanson, NY) added six kills and 15 digs.  Freshman Sarah Peacock (Duanesburg, NY) contributed six kills and 18 digs. Additionally, setter Kaitlin Olmstead (Horseheads, NY) managed 27 assists and nine digs. 

Sage faced Pitt-Bradford in the second match of the day and prevailed after a first game loss, winning three games to two; 22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18, 15-9.  Head Coach Lisa Gallagher added, "We showed great perseverance to overcome a loss in the first game and battle back with composure.  Our young squad is showing great improvement every day and its exciting to see it all unfold on the court". 

Provost  led Sage with 13 kills and 37 digs, while Corbett remained consistent with nine kills and three blocks.  Peacock continues to be a threat as she added 13 kills and 22 digs.

The Gators return to action tomorrow for the final day of the tournament as they face the host Elmira College at 10am, and a team later in the day that is yet to be determined.
