Women's tennis rolls to fifth straight win
Troy, NY----The Sage Colleges women's tennis team hosted the Badgers of Johnson State College and rolled to the team's fifth straight win on Sunday in Prospect Park. After dropping the first match of the year, Sage has won five straight and is now 5-1 on the year. Johnson State drops to 1-3 on the fall.
Leading the way for the Gators on Sunday was senior Christina Gray (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) as she posted the 6-0, 6-0 win over sophomore Rebecca Quarantiello (Newburyport, MA). The singles' win for Gray is her 16th straight win as the Gator has not lost a match since September of 2008.
Sage's sophomore Erica Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) added a win at second singles with her 6-1, 6-1 win over the Badgers' freshman Emily Miller (Tucson, AZ). Gray and Fitzgerald teamed at first doubles for an 8-2 win over Quarantiello and Miller. Playing at third singles, junior Ashley Brennan (Loudonville, NY/Colonie Central) added a win in three sets, while sophomore Briana Bixler (Highland, NY/Highland) added a win for Sage at fourth singles as she beat junior Kim Blakeman (Scituate, MA) and remains unbeaten in singles as she is now 6-0.
Junior Devin Money (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) added a win at fifth singles for Sage and freshman Julia DeMarco (Duanesburg, NY/Schalmont) sealed the Gators' singles sweep with her win at sixth singles.
Sage returns to action on Tuesday, September 22 when the team travels to Bard College for a Skyline Conference match at 7 p.m.
