Sage opens Skyline Play with 9-0 romp

Troy, NY----The Sage Colleges women's tennis team opened the 2009 Skyline Conference on Sunday hosting the Macabees of Yeshiva University. Sage would triumph 9-0 to improve to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Yeshiva drops to 0-2 overall and in the league.

Pacing the Gators on the day was senior Christina Gray (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) who played at first singles and first doubles with sophomore Erica Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury). With her win at first singles, Gray has now won 13 consecutive matches after finishing last year on an 11-match win streak. The reining Skyline Conference Player of the Year, Gray added a win at first doubles with her partner, Fitzgerald as they beat Yeshiva's Netta Schectman and Leah Michels, 8-0. Fitzgerald added a 6-1, 6-0 win at second singles to complete her sweep on the day.

Sage's sophomore Briana Bixler (Highland, NY/Highland) added a win at fourth singles as she beat Esti Reichman, 6-3, 6-2. Bixler is a perfect 2-0 in singles play this season.

Sage returns to action on Monday, September 7 when they host Lyndon State College in a non-conference match starting at 1 p.m. in Prospect Park.
