Gray Repeats as Skyline Player of the Year; Fitzgerald also honored

GRAY REPEATS AS SKYLINE CONFERENCE WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Troy, NY----The Sage Colleges women's tennis player, senior Sage's senior Christina Gray (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was named the 2009 Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year. The selection was a repeat award for the Gators' top singles and doubles player.
Since breaking on the scene in the Skyline Conference, Gray has never lost a singles match in conference play as she now owns a record of 17-0 in her two seasons on the team, while also owning a record of 14-2 in conference doubles action.
Joining Gray on the 2009 Skyline Conference First Team was Sage's sophomore Erica Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury).
Gray, who came to Sage from SUNY-Cobleskill is
a former ITA Junior College National Singles Champion having won
the singles crown in 2006. She has also attained a USTA National
ranking in the under 16 and under 14 age groups during her career.
She finished the 2009 season riding a seven-match win streak
in singles play as well as a seven-match win streak in doubles
action. Overall on the year, she went 13-2 in singles play,
including a 12-0 record in dual action. Overall on her singles
career as a Gator, she is 24-3, while owning a 22-4 record in
doubles. She will also bring a perfect 17-0 record in Skyline
Conference singles action into next season and stands poised for a
run as the league's three-time player of the year.
Fitzgerald added an impressive season for the
Gators as she held down the No. 2 spot in the singles ladder and
teamed with Gray at first doubles. Among the many highlights for
the team this fall, Gray and Fitzgerald became the first players
from Sage to compete at the prestigious ITA Northeast Regional
Singles and Doubles Championships in late September. Fitzgerald
would post an impressive record of 9-5 in singles this fall, while
adding an 11-3 record in the lineup at first doubles. She came to
Sage after a season at Adirondack Community College and was the
2009 recipient of the state tennis sportsmanship award.
On the year, Sage would finish with a 9-4 record and earned the program's second consecutive bid to the Skyline Conference Tournament.
