Sage Soccer Picks Up Fourth Win Of Season
Loudonville, NY - The Sage Colleges soccer team defeated Skyline opponent Old Westbury 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Siena College.
The Gators and Panthers were knotted for most of the first half, until freshman Rebecca Marszalek (Adams, MA) scored on a breakaway to put Sage up 1-0 towards the end of the first half. With 23 minutes left in the game, Korin Hallenbeck (Hudson, NY) found Ashley Allain (Stillwater, NY) on a touch pass and Allain found the back of the net for the final goal of the game and put the Gators up 2-0.
Sage got off 21 shots on the day, while Old Westbury only managed seven. Megan Welcome (Cohoes, NY) was awarded the shutout for the Gators, recording four saves. Sherrida Maxwell had nine saves for the Panthers.
With the win Sage improves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play, making them tied for fourth in the conference standings. The GAtors return to the field Saturday, October 11th to face Mount Saint Mary College. Mount Saint Mary is currently tied with three other teams at the top spot in the conference standings.
