Gators Fall to MCLA

From the MCLA Sports Information Desk

North Adams, MA - MCLA Sophomore Jess Tietgens (Stamford, VT) continued her scoring ways leading the Trailblazers (8-2-0) to a 4-0 win over Sage College (3-4-1). It only took the speedy forward just over two minutes to score her first goal of the contest. Kaitlyn Dano (Schoharie, NY) timed a perfect pass to Tietgens who split through the Gator back line and finished with her 13th goal of the season.

Then, just over two minutes later, midfielder Taylor Kenyon (North Bennington, VT) carried the ball through the middle of the field and dished off a well timed pass to find Tietgens streaking toward the goal again. She quickly netted her team leading 14th goal of the season past Sage goalkeeper, Meghan Welcome (Cohoes, NY). The Gators were pretty quiet on the attacking side mustering only four shots forcing Cece VonTiesnhausen-Hush (Arlington, VT) to make three easy saves. The Trailblazer rounded out their first half scoring when center back, Danielle Weber (Gansevoort, NY) was moved to outside midfield. Tietgens found fellow
forward Harmony McGorman (Orleans, MA) who dished off avoiding pressure to connect with Weber who blasted a shot to the upper corner from just inside
the top of the box for her first goal of the season.

Both teams took advantage of a mid-week non-conference game to make adjustments for this weekend's upcoming conference games. Every player on both rosters gained valuable playing time in preparation. It wasn't until the 73rd minute when the Trailblazers struck for their final goal of the day. Sage committed a foul 35 yards from their own goal. MCLA's free kick specialist, Jade Prickett (Westhampton, MA) struck for her forth goal of the season when she placed her shot just under the crossbar and over Gator goalkeeper, Sarah Fink (Maryland, NY). The second half was rather quite for Sage as they could only find the goal three times and were out-shot 21 to 7 for the game.

MCLA will be back in action on Saturday when MASCAC rival Salem State visits North Adams for a 1:00 kickoff. Sage College, a member of the Skyline Conference, will play host to Old Westbury at 1:00 on Saturday.
