Lanoue's last second jumper propels Sage to win over Yeshiva, 74-72
Troy, NY--- The Gators of The Sage Colleges tallied a 74-72 win over Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon in the Neff Center in a Skyline Conference contest. Sage's senior guard Pat Lanoue (Troy, NY/Hoosic Valley Central) sunk the game-winning shot for the Gators with 1.4 seconds left giving Sage the win and putting the team at 9-9 overall and 5-7 in the conference. Yeshiva drops to 2-14 overall and 2-8 in the league.
The two squads were tied at 39-39 at the break and Yeshiva lead by six points (69-63) with 1:58 left before the Gators hits some clutch shots down the stretch. Sophomore guard Mason Horne (Albany, NY/La Salle Institute) tallied a pair of free throws as well as Lanoue's pair of layups in the final minute and a half of play. Rookie Troy Nwanna (Washington, DC/Mercersburg Academy) tied the action at 72-72 all with 0:23 left to play before Lanoue sank the game-winner as he hauled in an offensive rebound and a added the layup.
Horne finished with a game-high 21 points as he was 13-for-16 from the line. He added 15 points in the first half of play. He added seven rebounds for the Gators, while Lanoue added 17 points after making 7-for-13 from the floor. Junior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) tallied 16 points for the Gators as they went 2-0 on the week.
Yeshiva had five different players finish in double-digits as four netted 12 points each. Junior center Shlomo Weissberg (Skokie, IL) had 12 points with nine rebounds, while Benjamin Ritholtz (Merrick, NY/Hebrew Academy of Nassau) added 12 points with four rebounds and two assists. Junior guard Gil Bash (Tel Aviv, Isreal) added 12 points for the Maccabees as did Omer Haim (Rehovot, Osreal).
Sage returns to action on February 1 travelling to Mt. St. Mary College for a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference contest on the road.
