Bio
As a senior pitcher and outfielder Rachel Smith garnered Skyline Conference All-Star First Team honors and a spot on the 2012 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team. She became the College’s very first CoSIDA Academic All-American to cap her second season at Sage. She finished her junior campaign ranked both as a hitter and a pitcher nationally. She belted a school-record nine home runs in 2012. As a pitcher, Smith ranked in shutouts with her four in 2012, while adding 13 wins, which was also ranked nationally. She ranked in ERA as well with her impressive 2.52 team-leading ERA in 2012, while also fanning a personal-best 78 batters in her 24 appearances in the circle. She batted .363 with 39 RBI's and 22 extra-base hits, including 12 doubles.
Smith’s 2012 numbers also included a 13-8 record in the circle in 111.0 innings of work. She appeared in 24 games and ranks No. 6 in single-season outings at Sage, while ranking No. 13 in innings worked in a single-season. Her 13 wins ranks second as well, while her ERA (2.52) stands No. 7 in single-season performances as well.
As a sophomore with the 2011 team, she batted .343 with 14 RBI’s and a pair of doubles. She added a 3-4 record in the circle with a 4.32 ERA in 35.2 innings or work.
She brings a .357 career batting average in 71 games played at Sage and is looking to leave her mark on a number of career records as well. She enters the 2013 campaign ranked No. 16 in career at-bats (230), No. 13 in career hits (82), No. 7 in doubles (14), No. 3 in homeruns (10), No. 13 in runs scored (55), and No. 10 in runs batted in (53).
Smith is also ready to leave her mark on the Sage career pitching records as she starts the 2013 season ranked No. 9 in games played (33), No. 12 in innings pitched (146.2), No. 6 in wins (16), No. 5 in strikeouts (11), and No. 5 in career ERA (2.96).
A graduate student at Sage, she excelled in the classroom as an undergraduate and earned a spot on the Sage Scholar-Athlete Team as well as the Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete Team. Named the 2012 Skyline Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, she also was decorated as the 2011-2012 Sage Female Athlete of the Year after also earning Gator of the Year honors with the 2012 softball team.
A graduate of Ichabod Crane High School, she is majoring in physical therapy at Sage and is the daughter of Michael and Deborah Smith.
