Bio
Ryan Lanigan (Ronkonkoma, NY) served as the first head coach of the Russell Sage College men’s lacrosse program from 2019-2024.
Lanigan was one of the longest tenured staff members in the department, hired as the first coach of the program in the summer of 2017. He increased the young program’s standing at the national and regional levels, guiding RSC to six wins in each of the past three springs.
In what ended up becoming the final season with Lanigan, a former All-American at Lebanon Valley, at the helm of the Gators, long-stick midfielder Joe Johnson (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) received an honorable mention for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American Team and was voted first-team All-Empire 8 Conference. Johnson became the first RSC Men’s Lacrosse player to earn either of these accolades.
Across the past six seasons, ten Gators earned All-E8 honors with many more garnering academic acclaim from the College Sports Communicators, Empire 8 Conference, and Russell Sage College.
Lanigan arrived at RSC after spending two seasons as an Assistant Coach at Misericordia University (Dallas, PA) and helped to guide the Cougars to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2017 after an impressive 7-0 showing in the Freedom Conference. A 2014 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, Lanigan became the first USILA All-American in the program’s history after garnering a spot on the third team as a senior long stick midfielder as a senior.
Prior to joining the coaching staff at Misericordia, Lanigan was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Assumption College. During his only season, the Greyhounds set a program record with nine wins and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Playoffs for the second time in program history.
On the field at Lebanon Valley, Lanigan holds the program career records for most ground balls (356) and caused turnovers (208). The USILA All-American, the first in the program's modern history, captained the team as a junior and senior and occupies the top-four spots on the Dutchmen's single-season record book for caused turnovers.
