Gator Volleyball Sweep Weekly Conference Awards

Troy, NY – The Skyline Conference recognized three Russell Sage College athletes this week for their achievements in their respective sports.

Junior Kaitlin Olmstead (Horseheads) and Freshman Nicole Corbett (Castleton) swept the volleyball awards, being recognized as Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.  Olmstead averaged 12.41 assists, 2.00 digs and 0.58 service aces as the Gators improved to 5-0 in Skyline play. The junior had 30 or more assists in all four matches, including 48 (16 per game) in a 3-0 win over Farmingdale State. Olmstead also had 37 assists against St. Joseph’s, 34 against Mount Saint Vincent and 30 against Bard.

Corbett, a middle hitter, earns Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week after averaging 3.75 kills and 1.083 blocks while hitting .481 (45-6-81) in a 4-0 week for the Gators. Corbett recorded double-digit kills three times, including 14 on 23 attempts against Farmingdale. She also recorded 11 kills each against St. Joseph’s and Mount Saint Vincent.

Senior goal keeper Schuyler Kokernak (Watervliet) earned a spot on the Skyline Honor Roll after recording three straight shutouts last week, extending her streak to five games. She hasn’t allowed a goal since a 2-1 season-opening loss to Rensselaer.

Both volleyball and soccer squads sit a top of the Skyline Conference in the first year of competition.
