Talent Expected to Lead Sage Into Skyline

The 2007 Russell Sage Volleyball team walks onto the court with much anticipation and preparation for the first season of competition in the Skyline Conference.  The veteran heavy squad, ranked fourth in the pre-season Skyline Conference poll, will be led by several stand-out players who have already made a name for themselves in the RSC record books. 

Head Coach Lisa Gallagher will look to Senior, Shannon Young (Utica) for her defense as she is already a record holder for career digs and has finished in the top 30 in the country in digs/game for the past three seasons.  Offensively, Gallagher will rely on outside hitter Catelyn Samoranski (Ballston Spa) as one of the primary hitters for the Gators.  Her speed and athletic ability gives her an edge over the competition.  Junior setter Kaitlin Olmstead (Horseheads) is expected to lead both on and off the court.  As a sophomore, Olmstead broke the career assist record early in the season and Gallagher doesn’t expect her to skip a beat in distributing the ball where it needs to be.   Both Jessica Nelson and Kellie Jones will see time at new positions this season as Nelson will be playing the ride side while Jones will assume the role as a middle hitter.   Both are expected to make strong contributions consistently throughout this season.  

Newcomer Nicole Corbett (Castleton) brings size to the Gator line up and will see quality court time in her first year of competition and is expected to be a strong presence at the net.  Transfer Krista Provost is expected to make an immediate impact at the outside hitter position while, Freshman Cheryce Harvey (Utica) rounds out the line up as a utility player and will serve in a variety of roles for Sage.

The Gators open the season   at the Las Vegas Blast  tournament, hosted by Trip Sports Inc Friday, August 30^th and Saturday, August 31^st. 

Sage will host their first match on September 5^th as they host Vassar College at 7pm.  Conference play will begin on September 11th against Purchase College.
