Lindsay Sawyer is entering her third year as a member of Sage's athletic department. She came to Sage with a wealth of success as a decorated player and a successful start to her coaching career. The Sage softball program is showing great improvement under her tutelage.
The Gators have begun to accumulate quite a collection in the trophy case over the past two seasons. The team boasts 12 Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete honorees, 12 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete citations, one Skyline Conference First-Team and two Skyline Conference Second-Team shonorees, as well as one All-Region Selection. In addition, Sage had two Skyline Conference Softball Player of the Week picks as well as a Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week and an Honorable Mention pick.
In her first season at the helm of the Gators, she led the team to successful campaign that included the completion of a new home field, the Robison Softball Field. The Gator softball team christened the pristine Robison Softball field with a pair of wins in the field’s first doubleheader against Southern Vermont College on March 25, 2009.
Prior to coming to Sage, Sawyer spent time on the coaching staff at both C.W. Post and the University of Rhode Island. While at C.W. Post her teams won their conference (NYAC) in both 2002 and 2003. In 2002, the C.W. Post coaching staff earned both NYAC Coaching Staff of the Year and NFCA Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors. The C.W. Post coaching staff produced six players that earned All-NYCAC all-star team selections as well as a NYCAC Player of the Year, and an All-American. During that time, the softball team at C.W. Post was ranked as an NCAA Division II Top 25 Division team, going undefeated in conference play in 2002.
At the University of Rhode Island, she helped mentor two
student-athletes to the Atlantic 10 Honors as one was a Second
Team selection and another the Honorable Mention Team. She also
helped another earn an All-Rookie selection, while another was
tapped for the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference
student-athlete squad.
A 2001 Hofstra University graduate, she received her Bachelor of
Arts Degree in psychology. A four-year starter as a short
stop, she finished her career with .300 batting average having also
led her team to the America East Conference Championship
all four years she was on the team. Sawyer was named to both the
America East All-Tournament Team and All-Academic Team in 1999,
2000 and 2001.
Sawyer resides in Troy and is pursuing her masters' degree in the
School of Health Education at The Sage Colleges. In addition to her
coaching duties, Sawyer is a familiar face on campus. She is a
co-advisor of the Class of 2012, and serves on various committees
and frequently performs with her guitar at campus events.
She holds certification as a professional rescuer in CPR and is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Kimberly Prior
Assistant Softball Coach
The Sage Colleges is proud to announce that Kimberly
Prior (Rotterdam, NY) has bee
n selected to serve as the assistant softball coach. Prior joins
head softball coach, Lindsay Sawyer for the upcoming 2010 softball
campaign.
A 2006 graduate of Oneonta State, Prior joins Sage's program after excelling at both Hudson Valley Community College and for the Red Dragons.
Head coach Lindsay Sawyer said of Prior's selection, "I'm very excited that Kim has joined our staff." Sawyer added, "her expertise from the pitcher's perspective is going to be extremely helpful as we build our program with high expectations for post-season success. She is a detail driven and a hard worker, who will complement our program well."
A two-year starter at HVCC, she helped the 2002 and 2003 teams capture the Mountain Valley Conference Championship. As a freshman, she helped the 2002 squad win the Region III Championships and finish the campaign as the NJCAA National Runners-up. In her sophomore season, she earned Region III Female Athlete of the Week for her efforts on the mound after collecting a pair of shutouts as well as tossing a no-hitter. She finished the 2003 season with a 7-1 record and a 1.54 ERA.
After transferring to Oneonta State, Prior would star for the Red Dragons for two seasons. She would produce a 1.17 ERA in four appearances in 2005 and helped the team finish second in the SUNYAC tournament. As a senior, she was elected team captain and went 5-4 with a save after earning a 3.56 ERA with a shutout in 16 appearances. She fanned 35 batters and held the opposition to a .272 average.
Scholastically, Prior played at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School where she excelled as a pitcher and first baseman.
Prior has continued her playing career as she plays fast-pitch softball as a member of the Capital Regional Women's Fast-Pitch District 7 Amateur Softball league.
