Now in his fourth season as the head men’s golf coach at The Sage Colleges, Luke Scala recently was named the 2010 recipient of the PGA Junior Golf Leader Award. Scala, who also serves as the club professional at nearby Van Schaick Island Country Club as the club professional is in his third season as the head men’s golf coach at Sage.

Scala received the award for his outstanding contributions in the promotion and development of junior golf and for reflecting the ideals of those who work with youth. He was named the 2010 Northeastern New York Section recipient of the award from the PGA.

In the fall of 2011, Scala's Gators finished as the Skyline Conference Tournament Runner-up and were named the recipient of the conference's Sportsmanship Award as voted by the league's coaches. Sage also produced two Skyline Conference All-Star First Team honorees as well as a second-team performer.

Scala arrived at Sage in 2008 and has helped to build Sage's men's golf program. A Class A, P.G.A. Golf Professional of twenty-five years, Scala has worked at some of the most prominent clubs in upstate New York and Westchester County.  Among the clubs he has worked includes Riverview Country Club, Evergreen Country Club, Leewood Country Club, Bedford Golf & Tennis Club, and Wykagyl Country Club.  While at these clubs, Scala taught many Club Champions and also Junior Club Champions.

Scala's tournament playing experience includes a number of events in the Metropolitan PGA Section, while playing for six years on the JC Goosey Tour, the North Florida Tour, and the U.S. Open Qualifying rounds for eight years.  These tournaments were held on U.S. Open and PGA Championship courses such as Winged Foot Golf Club, Quaker Ridge Golf Club, Baltusrol Golf Club, and Siwanoy Country Club.
