Kuebler and Cooney named 2011 Sage Women's Volleyball Captains
Sage has selected sophomores Kate Kuebler and Joanie Cooney as the team's leaders for the upcoming season.
Troy, NY---The Sage Colleges women’s volleyball team has announced the selection of the team’s 2011 captains, sophomore setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) and sophomore return specialist Kate Kuebler (Schenectday, NY/Mohanasen).
The 2011 Sage women’s volleyball team will be lead this season by Sandy Augstein-Collins, a 1987 graduate of Russell Sage College and a member of the Sage Athletic Hall of Fame. Augstein-Collins returned to Sage last spring and is excited about the 2011 campaign, which marks her 16th as a collegiate head coach. Augstein-Collins enters the new campaign, just four wins shy of her 250th career win, a feat the team could deliver on opening weekend of the 2011 campaign with four matches on the docket.
Head Coach Sandy Augstein-Collins said of her new captains, “Joanie and Kate have poured their heart and soles into Sage’s volleyball team and we are looking forward to the growth of the program under their leadership and guidance as captains as the Gators look to build the squad and look to the next chapter.”
As a rookie, Cooney led Sage with her 536 setting assists and has added 197 digs and 56 kills in her 95 sets played. She has positioned herself into the Sage single-season record book already as her assists per season is 10th best already. She also stands in seventh on the career setting assist mark on her young career. Kuebler played in 28 matches as a rookie and made dramatic improvements in her play by season’s end and helped the 2010 squad garner a spot in the Skyline Conference Playoffs at year’s end.
