Butler etches name into Sage career record book as Gators fall on the road

Union, NJ ----Sage's women's lacrosse team travelled to Kean University for a Skyline Conference women's lacrosse match on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars scored seven of the game's first eight goals en-route to a 20-2 win. Kean improves to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in the league, while Sage is now 0-3 overall and in the conference.
Sophomore Stephanie Tocko netted a game-high four goals in the win, while junior Ginelle Butler (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa netted a pair of goals and in the process became Sage's all-time leader in career goals. Butler
Moved ahead of the old record of 20 goals set by Brianna Thompson in 2009. Butler now has 22 career goals and 26 points, which is also Sage's active career points mark.
After the two teams traded goals in the opening minutes, Tocko opened a 6-0 run with back-to-back goals as Kean built a 7-1 lead. Butler halted the run with an unassisted goal midway through the first half, but the Cougars closed out the half with seven straight goals to take a 14-2 lead at halftime.
Kean scored all six goals in the second half to pull away for its largest win of the season.
Sophomore Lyndsey Cannon had three goals, an assist and five draw controls, while senior Amanda South added three goals. Senior defender Joelle Vitale had six caused turnovers and six groundballs.
For the Gators, goalkeeper senior Brittany Schafer (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson Central) made 17 saves in the first 45 minutes of action.
