Sage drops home match-up with FSC
Albany, NY –The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted the Rams of Farmingdale State College on Saturday in Kahl Gym in a Skyline Conference contest. The Rams collected the 51-39 win to improve to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in the Skyline, while the loss puts Sage at 7-10 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
The Rams jumped out to a 29-12 lead at the intermission as junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, NY/John Adams) paced the team with her eight points, including a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Christina Merrill (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) and senior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, NY/Roosevelt) had six points each for the Rams.
Sage's junior guard Erica Houle (Latham, NY/Shaker) and sophomore guard Megan Bowman (Saranac, NY/Saranac) each had six points in the first half, while sophomore center Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) had eight rebounds.
By game's end, Young had 17 points after hitting 9-10 from the free throw line. She had a double-double as she also hauled down 10 rebounds with three blocked shots. Merrill finished with nine points, while Green had eight points. Junior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, NY/William Floyd) had a team-best 13 rebounds for the Rams.
The Gators were paced by Bowman, who tallied 15 points, marking the seventh time she has been Sage's high-scorer this year. Houle had 11 points off the bench, while Jefferson had 16 rebounds, tying her career-high on the boards. She has now been the Gators' high-rebounder on nine separate occasions.
The Gators will be back in action on January 29 when they host the Jays of NYU-Poly in a Skyline Conference contest at Kahl Gym at 6 p.m. Farmingdale State College is back in action on January 31 travelling to NYU-Poly for a 6 p.m. Skyline Conference contest.
