After a stellar career as a member of Sage’s men’s soccer program, Sean Lanza returns in 2016 as an assistant coach for the Gators. In his first year on the sidelines, he was part of a staff that helped the squad advance to the Skyline Conference Championship match, only to fall in overtime and just miss the program's second NCAA tournament berth. As a returning assistant coach, he helped the 2017 Gators to a repeat appearance in the league championship match, this time as a member of the Empire 8.
As a senior captain, Lanza was part of the 2015 Gator lineup that won the Skyline Conference Championship after winning the regular-season title and a spot in the 2015 NCAA Division III Championship. Named the Gator of the Year for 2015, Sean was also honored as the Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Conference Championship after also earning Skyline Conference First Team honors at midfield.
Lanza arrived at Sage as a sophomore in 2013 and started six of 20 games played with six points on two goals and two assists. During his junior year, he played in 18 games with 17 starts, and added a pair of goals with four assists. He tied was tied for third in the scoring race for most assists on the 2014 team.
As a senior, this performer played in every game and was a nominee for the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team with his balance of academic and athletic excellence. He has played in 58 games at Sage with four goals, six assists and 14 points and had a pair of game-winning goals as well.
He majored in biology and physical therapy at Sage and was named to the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete Team as well as the Dean’s List at Sage. He also earned three selections to the Sage Scholar-Athlete Team and earned back-to-back selections to Sage’s Athletic Honor Society in 2015 and 2016.
