Meade finishes as medalist as Gators win season-opener at Cobleskill
Sage's men's golf team won the Cobleskill Invitational on Friday as rookie Zach Meade won the event with his round of 77.
Cobleskill, NY---- The Sage Colleges men's golf team opened the 2010-2011 season on Friday competing at the SUNY-Cobleskill Invitational. Sage which is under the direction of third-year head coach Luke Scala posted the very first team win in program history as Sage won the four-team event on Friday. Sage also produced the event's medalist as rookie Zach Meade (Tupper Lake, NY/Tupper Lake) recorded a round of 77 for the day.
Sage won the team score with a program-best round of 321. Taking second was Cobleskill's A team with a 323, while Cobleskill's B squad took third with a 349 and SUNY-IT rounded the team scoring out with a 360. The event was held at the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club, a par 70, 6,133 yard course.
Sage's Meade opened his collegiate career in style with a 77 in his first event, followed by a round of 80 turned in by fellow Gator, junior Nick Osowicki (Amsterdam, Amsterdam). Junior Shane McGowan (Schenectady, NY/Amsterdam) was next for Sage with an 81, while sophomore Ian Pingelski (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) shot an 81 on the day. Freshman Rich Christman (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) rounded out the scoring for Sage with his 91 on opening day.
Sage returns to action on Saturday back at the same course as they will compete at another invitational hosted by SUNY-Cobleskill back at Cobleskill Golf and Country Club.
