Wick, Flower and Opalka honored by Empire 8

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's and men's cross country squads were honored with the release of the 2018 Empire 8 cross country awards. Sage's women's team finished in seventh place at the 2018 Empire 8 Championship, while the men's team was incomplete and did not score.

Earning acclaim with a selection to the 2018 Empire 8 Women's Cross Country All-Star Second Team was rookie runner Kerry Flower (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont). Competing at the league championship, Flower posted a time of 27:27.37 and took home 17th place.

Also honored with a selection to the Empire 8 Sportswoman Team was the Gators' senior co-captain Victoria Opalka (Forth Johnson, NY/Broadalbin-Perth).

One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2018 Women's Women's Cross Country Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.

On the men's side, Sage's senior Jarryd Wick (Ayers, MA/E.F. Parker School) posted a time of 38:00.68 on the 8 k course and finished in 71st place at the Empire 8 Championship.  Wick earned his second straight selection to the Empire 8 Men's Cross Country Sportsmanship Team for his role with the Gators.
