Corbett cited for play with spot on All-Tournament Team
CORBETT EARNS A SPOT ON ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM AS SAGE WRAPS PLAY AT VASSAR INVITATIONAL
Poughkeepsie, NY----The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team traveled to Vassar College on Saturday to compete in the two-day Vassar College Invitational.
Sage would fall to regionally ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, 3-1 in the first match of the day (25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17). The Gators then fell 3-0 to the University of Rochester (25-22, 25-18, 25-17). Sage is now 11-22 on the year.
Sage's junior middle hitter Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) would earn a spot on the all-tournament team for her efforts on the weekend.
For the Gators, in the first match Corbett added 11 kills, and three blocks. Sophomore setter Kristyn Buonincontra (Shelton, CT/Shelton) racked up setting 24 assists.
Sophomore libero Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Gibbins) added 14 digs for the Gators in the first match. Junior Sarah Peacock (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) added five kills and 14 digs, while senior Kellie Jones (Troy, NY/Troy) added 13 digs and six kills.
Against the Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester, Corbett added 10 kills and 4 blocks. Peacock would add seven kills with three total blocks and 16 digs. Buonincontra would add 27 assists and now has 693 setting assists on the year. Junior middle hitter Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/Goshen) would add six kills, while Wilson racked up 23 digs.
Corbett continues her climb on Sage's career block list as she now has 361 blocks and is just three shy of moving her into second place on the all-time career block list. On the 2009 season, she has 229 kills with 101 blocks, which leads the team.
The Gators will return to action on Wednesday, November 4 hosting SUNY Old-Westbury in the Neff Athletic Center in the first round of the 2009 Skyline Conference Playoffs.
