Gators dominate Skyline Tri-Match; Win streak extended to 21 matches

Troy, NY----The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team hosted the College of Maritime and Farmingdale State College in a Skyline Conference tri-match on Saturday in the Neff Athletic Center. By day's end, the Gators had collected a pair of wins and extended their Skyline Conference unbeaten streak to 21 consecutive matches dating back to the fall of 2007 when the team joined the conference. Sage would collect a 3-0 win over Maritime in the first match (25-8, 25-10, 25-8) and then beat Farmingdale State, 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-13). In the middle match, Farmingdale defeated Maritime, 3-2 (17-25, 25-15, 16-25, 25-21, 15-12). Sage is now 6-11 overall and 3-0 in the Skyline, while Farmingdale is 1-9 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline. Maritime is now 2-4 overall with an 0-2 record in the league.
Against Maritime, junior outside hitter Sarah Peacock (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) had 11 digs with seven kills, while junior Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) racked up seven kills with a solo block and a dig. three blocks to add to the win. Sage's sophomore Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Gibbons) added nine digs and senior middle hitter Kellie Jones (Troy, NY/Troy) recorded six kills with five digs. Sophomore Kristyn Buonincontra (Shelton, CT/Shelton) added 21 assists with two digs for the Gators.
Against Sage, Maritime's sophomore Natalie Jackson (Stockton, CA/Bear Creek) had seven assists, while junior Natalie Warren (Peachtree City, GA) had nine digs. Rookie Lauren Johnson (Lansing, MI/Holt) added six kills and senior Marissa Danzy (Monroeville, AL/High School of Fashion Industries) added a pair of blocks for the Privateers.
In the Maritime-Farmingdale contest, Farmingdale was led by sophomore Shelby Martin (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) with her 18 assists, while sophomore Jessica Zimmerman (Seaford, NY/Seaford) added 15 digs. Sophomore Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, NY/Copiague) racked up 15 digs, while junior Renee Millevoj (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) added seven kills and sophomore Eboni Harding (Amityville, NY/Amityville Memorial) paced the squad with her three blocks.
Maritime's Jackson added 16 assists for her team, while Johnson had 10 kills and 13 digs. Danzy added seven blocks for the team as well.
In the final match of the day, Sage would come away with the 3-0 win over Farmingdale. Buonincontra paced Sage with her 24 assists and three digs, while Corbett added eight kills and three blocks and was perfect on the day. Peacock added eight kills with seven digs. Jones added seven kills and six digs for the Gators, while junior hitter Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/Goshen) added four kills with three blocks.
Farmingdale picked up six assists from Alyssa Siegel (Carle Place, NY/Carle Place), while Zimmerman added three kills. Senior Tiffara Steward (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) added seven digs, while Cunningham made three blocks in the match.
Sage takes to the court again on Tuesday, September 29 travelling to Western New England College for a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m.
