Clarkson and Sage play to a 1-1 tie
Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges hosted Clarkson University on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's soccer contest played at the University at Albany. After 110 minutes of play, the contest would end in a 1-1 overtime tie. With that, Sage is now 4-4-1 and Clarkson stands at 2-7-1.
Sage would score in the opening minutes of the second half as sophomore Rebecca Marszalek (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley) converted a feed from rookie Rebecca Doble (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) at 48:08. The goal for Marszalek was her eighth of the year and her 22nd of her career as she has elevated her career totals to include 22 goals, four assists, and 48 total points.
Clarkson would earn the tie as they capitalized on a defensive error by Sage that allowed for an own goal at 73:07. The two teams would fail to score in the remainder of regulation and in two 10 minute overtimes, resulting in a 1-1 tie. Clarkson's senior back Brittany Monroe (Massena, NY/Massena) made a game-saving defensive stop after junior keeper Stephanie Collins (Colton, NY/Colton-Pierrepont) went down on a play and Collins prevented the Gators' from scoring as they had an open net but did not score.
In goal for the Gators, junior goalie Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) recorded a career-high 26 saves with one goal allowed in 110 minutes on 42 shots, including 27 shots on goal, while Collins made three saves with a goal allowed.
Sage returns to action on October 10 travelling to SUNY Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference match commencing at 1 p.m., while Clarkson University is in action on the road at Hamilton College on October 9 for a 4 p.m. Liberty League match.
