Gators fall from Skyline Tournament

Farmingdale, NY---The Sage Colleges women's soccer team traveled to top seeded Farmingdale State College on Thursday for the Skyline Conference Semifinals. The Rams would collect the 3-0 win to move into the championship game on Saturday, while Sage's hopes of a Skyline Conference Championship were dashed. Farmingdale is now 14-4-3 overall riding a five-game win streak, while the Gators are now 9-8-1.
Farmingdale will now take on the Bard-Purchase semifinal winner from tonight's contest in the championship game at Farmingdale.
Farmingdale led 3-0 at the break as rookie Jamie Smith (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) put her team on the scoreboard at the 8:49 mark for her team-leading tenth goal of the year. Rookie Melissa Elie (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) scored at 23:29 to help the team to a 2-0 lead before sophomore Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, NY/ Center Moriches) put the Rams up 3-0 at the half with her goal at 40:26.
Rookie keeper Maggie Studsrud (Staten Island, NY/Susan B. Wagner) would earn the shutout win to improve to 6-0-2 in goal and now has four shutouts this fall. In goal for the Gators, was Sage's junior goalie Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) as she made 15 saves on the afternoon with three goals allowed.
Sage must now wait for the announcement of the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate Tournament field on Monday afternoon. A year ago the Gators earned the program's first-ever bid to the tournament and are hoping for a return to the event once again.
