Utica remains unbeaten with 19-3 win over Gators
Utica, NY-- The Pioneers of Utica College hosted the Gators of The Sage Colleges in women's lacrosse Wednesday afternoon and cruised to a 19-3 win. Utica improves to 4-0, while the Gators fall to 0-2.
The Pioneers led 13-1 at the half as Louise Steele-Norton paced the team with four of her five goals in the first half of play. By game's end, she had seven points on five goals with two assists, while Patricia Kane and Megan Kane each connected for three goals apiece.
For the Gators, freshman midfielder Mallory Hansen (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) connected for the team's first goal of the game and helped the Gators open the action with a score at 24:53. Sage's senior attacker Alexa Pajak (Earlton, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) tallied a pair of goals in the second half of the action and has elevated her season total to nine goals and five assists for 14 points.
Sage's career goal scoring leader, Pajak has 46 goals and also a holds an active Sage career record of 56 points.
Senior goalie Courtney Reed (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) suffered the loss to drop to 0-2 on the year. She had 11 saves on the afternoon and now 240 career saves, an active Gator career record.
Utica's Stephanie Belanger had one save in earning the win for the Pioneers as they outshot the Gators, 42-7.
The Gators return to action on March 15 travelling to New England College for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
