Sage Defeats Conference Rival Polytechnic
Troy, NY- The Sage Colleges women's basketball team played the role of a spoiler tonight by beating Polytechnic University of NYU 60 to 55. The win by the Gators (Skyline Conference record 4-12; overall 4-19) drops the Fighting Blue Jays to the seventh spot in the conference and currently out of play-off contention.
The difference in the game was at the free throw line; the Gators shot 100% for the night (12 for 12 overall, 10 in the second half) while the Fighting Blue Jays hit 65% (11-17) on the night. Of note for the Sage Colleges was Liz Donk (Phelps, NY) who went 6 for 6 at the line. Donk nailed all of her free throws with less than 3 minutes to go in regulation for a total of 13 points and 10 assists on the night. Kelley Barnes' (Schenectady, NY) mid-range jumper was firing on all cylinders as seen by her 16 points for the Gators. Freshman Margaux Picknell (Howell, NJ) lead all scorers with 22 points and 17 rebounds for Polytechnic.
The Gators celebrate senior night on Wednesday versus Skyline opponent Bard College with a 6pm tip.
