Catania's goal lifts Sage past the Dolphins on Tuesday

Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team hosted the Dolphins of The College of Mt. Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference match on Tuesday. The Gators tallied the 2-1 win on regulation to improve to 4-5-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the league. The Dolphins drop to 2-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the league.

Sage scored first as rookie midfielder Evan Southworth (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) score first collegiate goal at 34:54. Less than two minutes later, the game would be tied as sophomore midfielder Ahmed Ajao (Brooklyn, NY/Frederick Douglas) crossed a pass on a direct kick from junior defender Luis Alvarez (White Plains, NY/White Plains) at 36:07.

The game was tied at 1-1 until midway through the second half when freshman midfielder Chris Catania (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) tallied his second goal of the fall on a pass from freshman defender Kris Kallenbach (Bristol, CT/Bristol Central) at 71:30. The score held up and the goal was the first game-winner for Catania, who now leads Sage with five points this fall.

Carmen Volpe (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) made one saves in collecting the win, while CMSV's junior Javier Mandujano (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) made seven saves in the match.  

Sage returns to action on October 9 travelling to Purchase College for a 1 p.m. Skyline match, while the College of Mt. St. Vincent travels to St. Joseph's College also for a Skyline game on October 9 at 1 p.m.
