Sage golf squad opens new season with a win at Cobleskill Invitational
Cobleskill, NY--The Sage College's men's golf team opened the 2012 season on Thursday at the Fighting Tiger Invitational, hosted by SUNY-Cobleskill. For the third straight year, Sage posted the best score at the event to take home the team championship title. The event was held at the par 70/6163 year Cobleskill Golf & Country Club. The hosts fell one shot short of the tournament champions the Gators from The Sage Colleges from Troy, N.Y. who posted a winning round of 320 for the tournament.
The Gators were led by senior Shane Kiselis (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) and senior captain Ian Pingelski (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes), who both fired rounds of 78 to tie for second place on the day with SUNY Canton junior Mike Reilly (Colton, NY/Colton-Pierepont), who posted also posted a round of 78.
Cobleskill also entered a "B" team in the event which posted a team total of 340 to place third overall led by freshman Joe Naylor, who posted a round of 81 to tie for sixth overall versus the field.
Sage's junior Richie Christman (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) finished tied for 8th place after shooting an 82 for the round. He tied with teammate, junior Zach Sullivan (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Lake) who also carded an 82 on the day. Rounding out the Gator scorers was freshman DJ Ioele (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown), who placed 20th overall with a round of 91.
Also competing for the Gators in the event as the team's sixth man, was junior Gerard Beaudin (Delmar, NY/Home Schooled) as he shot an opening day round of 85.
