Gators' win streak snapped by Farmingdale despite career-high effort from Horne

Farmingdale, NY--- The Farmingdale State men's basketball team defeated The Sage Colleges, 76-59, this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. Junior guard Shahee Martin (Queens, N.Y./West Hempstead) led all scorers with 24 points in the win for the Rams.

Farmingdale State (8-8, 8-3 Skyline) held an early 23-9 advantage midway through the first half. The Gators (4-12, 3-9 Skyline) responded with a 12-2 run, pulling within four points with 3:31 remaining in the half. Farmingdale took a slight 31-29 lead into halftime, despite 17 first half fouls.

Sage scored the first six points after the break to regain the lead, their first lead since leading 5-3 in the games opening minutes. Farmingdale countered with a 12-0 run and took a 43-35 lead with 14:36 remaining. Sage pulled within one at the 11:45 mark on back to back layup's by freshman forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton). A 10-0 Farmingdale run over the next 3:11 put the Rams back on top by 10 and was too much for visiting Sage to overcome.

Martin shot 8-for-15 from the field and grabbed four boards to go with his game-high 24 points. Freshman guard Ricco Oliver (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys and Girls) scored 18 points, while senior guard Terrance Howard (Queens, N.Y./Cardozo) scored seven and had a career-high 17 rebounds for Farmingdale State.

Freshman forward Mason Horne (Albany, N.Y./La Salle Institute) led Sage with a career-high 20 points, while freshman center Marcus Hunter (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) had 12 points and a team-high nine boards.  Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) added 10 points with six rebounds.

Sage returns to action on January 27 when they host Purchase College in the Neff Athletic Center in Troy in an  8 p.m. Skyline Conference game.
