Sage falls to top seeded St. Joe's in conference play
Patchogue, NY---The Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College hosted the Gators of The Sage Colleges in men's basketball on Saturday in a Skyline Conference match-up. St. Joseph's would collect the 88-73 win to improve to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the league. With the loss, Sage falls to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
St. Joe's led 48-33 at the break as sophomore forward Steven Velazquez (Hauppauge, NY/ Hauppauge) and sophomore guard Chris Jimeniz (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) each had 12 points. By game's end, Velazquez netted 19 points, while senior guard Mike Crisci (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) also collected 19 points. St. Joe's had five players finish with double-digit scoring performances, while Shabab Syed (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) netted a double-double on 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
For the Gators, freshman forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton)paced the team with his 18 points, while freshman Alex King (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) added 15 points with five rebounds. Junior guard Ryan Harris (Hudson Falls, NY/Glens Falls) added 13 points with three assists, while rookie guard Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) added eight points with two assists and a pair of steals.
Sage returns to action on Tuesday, January 12 when they travel to NYU-Poly for an 8 p.m. Skyline Conference game, while St. Joseph's College hosts Purchase College that same night at 8 p.m.
